[UGAF] "gas tank" in a washing machine

This isn't graphic arts related, but industrial design is something  
many on the list are also related in so I thought I would throw it out.

Why don't washing machines have a detergent reservoir? A friend  
brought it up yesterday and I can't get it off my mind. What a simple  
and yet significant enhancement that would make! You fill it up with  
several gallons of liquid detergent and then it automatically  
dispenses the appropriate amount each time you run a load. It seems  
so obvious that it really seems strange to me that it hasn't already  
been implemented.
