[UPHPU] Login tracking

I know this has already been talked about but what is a good way to keep
track of logged in users.  I want to list users who are logged in on some
admin pages.  It's easy enough to keep something in a database table but how
do you get around the problem of people leaving with out clicking on the
logout link?
