I've never done it myself, but it is possible to use MS Access as a
frontend to MySQL. Since they are familiar with Access already, it
might also make it easier for them to use.

A guy in our operations department built a pretty involved Access database.
He wanted to integrate some info from a MySQL database that I wrote a web
front end for. He liked it so much that he migrated all his Access tables to
MySQL. It works really well and he can still use his Access knowledge to run
all his custom reports and queries.
